This is an interesting topic and I share my opinion about it.

Whales on steem platform are very helpful for those who have low SP, i get good upvote on my post by whales because they knows it require lots of time and effort to create good content. I start blogging on steem without any investment, now i have 50 SP and reputation of 51 just because of my good content, support of community and upvote by whales.

Whales knows competition and to maintain good reputation on steemit platform is tough , they also started with reputation of 25 and with low SP, they knows the struggle of new comer on Steem platform therefore whales like @firepower, @chbartist are very helpful if you create awesome content and add value to the steem community, if any whales do that it is only a exception.
